The first horror novel ever written, which inaugurated this new genre, is the famous novel Frankenstein published in 1817. It was written by Mary Shelly (1797-1851). One line in this book is perhaps the most poignant line in all of horror fiction and perhaps in all fiction in general. The monster, as he is being formed in the laboratory, says to the devious scientist who is molding him "How dare you trifle thus with life!" In this line is the anguished appeal to the very foundation of all ordered civility. It is a desperate appeal to the sanctity (sacredness) of human life.
In our age of unbridled secularism with its cloning, mercy killing and abortion, this one line echoes deep into our consciences. Mankind is trifling with life at all levels. This January 22nd we in the US mark the anniversary of the infamous Roe Vs Wade decision of the Supreme court which threw out the laws that forbade abortion in all 50 states. More than 40 million preborn children have had their lives snuffed out by abortion since that dark day.
Some years ago I walked up North Avenue in New Rochelle, New York and noticed the gleaming new Planned Parenthood facility. It was probably the best looking building on the block. Nestled squarely between the projects and the barrio, it took no great leap of reasoning to surmise that their abortion clients were overwhelmingly black and Hispanic. I had long known that from its inception, Planned Parenthood gave priority to opening birth control and later abortion clinics in poor minority neighborhoods.
Margaret Sanger (1883-1966), foundress of Planned Parenthood, was openly racist in her pleas to reduce births among the poor. She seemed oddly and particularly perturbed by the large number of Italian immigrants who were coming to New York City in the early 20th century. Sanger opened her first birth control clinic at 46 Amboy Street in Brooklyn in 1916. The circulars advertising the clinic were in English, Italian and Yiddish.
Sanger's writings at the time were in clear agreement with the eugenics movement. The eugenics movement sought to reduce births among the genetically "unfit" which to them meant the handicapped, the mentally retarded and the darker skinned peoples. The Nazis were strongly influenced by the eugenics movement and took it to its logical extreme. Abortion was legalized in Germany in 1931 on the eve of the Nazi takeover.
The dominant view of secular anthropology today is that human beings are nothing more than hairless apes that emerged from random chaos. This view, which comes out of secularist evolutionary thought is the reason for the denial of the sacredness of human life. Both abortion and racism are proven to have been given momentum by this secularist worldview. In Darwin's day Sub-Saharan Africans and Australian Aborigines were considered "missing links" and not considered to be as evolved as European peoples. Adolf Hitler, in his book Mein Kampf, extensively appealed to Darwinian evolution to support his racial theories.
It was the gruesome outcome of the Nazi genocide with its mass murder of Jews and others that put the brakes on eugenics and buried the notions of racial superiority forever. Abortion however is a stealth holocaust, the murder takes place on a small human being in the hiddenness of the womb. There are no gas chambers or crematoria but rather bags of surgical waste containing fetuses that are quietly disposed.
Statistics consistently show that a disproportionately high percentage of abortions are performed on black and Hispanic women in the United States. Detractors say that this is merely because these groups have significantly higher rates of fertility. Learned observers, however, contend that the high rate of placement of abortion clinics in poor neighborhoods and taxpayer funded abortions for the poor reveal that something subtle and sinister is going on. It's a stealth holocaust and it is allowed to continue because many liberal politicians who claim to support the minorities conveniently look the other way. It all began with the denial of the Bible's teaching on the sanctity of life. How dare they trifle thus with life!

Steps to salvation:
Jesus said "Ye must be born again." (John 3:7)
- Believe that God created you and loves you and sent the Messiah (Messiah is Hebrew for Christ) to redeem you.
- Believe that Jesus the Messiah came in fulfillment of over 300 Bible prophecies to die for you to take upon Himself the penalty for your sins. (Isaiah 53:5-6, John 6:29, Romans 4:5, First Peter 3:18)
- Turn from sin and call on the name of Jesus to receive forgiveness. (Romans 10:13)
- Receive Jesus as Savior and experience the new birth. (John 1:12, Acts 2:38)
- Follow Him as Lord. (John 14:21)
"Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved" (Romans 10:13)
To receive the salvation that Jesus purchased for us at the terrible cost of His suffering and death on our behalf I invite you to pray this simple prayer:
"Dear heavenly Father, I thank you for sending Jesus, the promised Messiah, to die for my sins. I admit that I am a sinner and I ask for your forgiveness on the basis of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. I ask you to fill me with your Holy Spirit to empower me to serve you under the Lordship of Jesus Christ, Amen."
If you prayed that prayer in the humble sincerity of your heart then you have received everlasting life, which includes power to live right in this life and entrance into heaven in the afterlife!

DEFENDING THE FAITH APOLOGETIC ARTICLES
Bill Nugent currently writes a series of articles called "Defending the Faith" which, as the title suggests, defend the Christian faith from the many attacks leveled against it in our postmodern world.
The articles deal with such topics as evolution, UFOs, cults, modern/postmodern philosophy, liberal theology and popular culture. At the end of each article is an invitation to receive Christ as Savior and Lord. These articles are sent out over the Internet to several opt-in email lists. People who receive these articles are encouraged to resend them to their own lists and in this way reach their own unsaved relatives and friends with the Gospel.
